Let It Go

A few years ago, I read a book called “You Can Heal Your Life” by Louise Hay. This book actually changed my life. Louise was able to heal herself from cancer through forgiveness, positive affirmations and changing her own thought processes. It is her belief that every illness and every pain we endure is caused by our own negative thinking. I have come to believe and embrace this.

One thing I noticed after reading this book is that often my own thoughts had included the words, “I’m not good enough.” This thought had become so ingrained in my thinking that I wasn’t even aware that it was constantly in my head. It took concentrated focus and meditation for me to even realize that it was there. Our thought patterns can become so habitual that we feel powerless to change them. But we can change them. We just have to decide that we are going to change and to keep going no matter how difficult it may be.

Essential oils can be powerful tools for self-transformation. When working on releasing negative feelings/memories, I recommend two blends by Young Living: Release and Forgiveness. Then try this two-step process and repeat it until you feel that you have let go of whatever is holding you back.

The first step is to release your need to feel unworthy (if things in your life aren’t going the way you would like, you probably have feelings of worthlessness whether you realize it or not). Much of our negative energy is stored on our liver. Try applying Release over your liver area (front and back just under your right breast area) in a circular motion just before bed as you practice this affirmation, “I am willing to release the need to feel unworthy. I am worthy of all the best things in life, and I now lovingly choose to accept them.” You can write this in a journal or say it out loud. I like to also list all the things in my life that I want, for example, “I am worthy of love and I accept it now, I am worthy of prosperity and I accept it now…”

In my experience, the reasons that we feel unworthy are due to something that we made up about ourselves following a traumatic incident; thinking “I’m bad,” as a result of being abused as a child or thinking, “I’m unlovable,” after a divorce are just two examples of the endless lies we tell ourselves. It’s important to remember that these are lies. They are not true, have never been true, and never will be true. Not about me, you or anyone else.

The second step is to forgive anyone who has ever hurt you while imagining that you are telling that person (or yourself) what they did and how it made you feel. Then say to them (in your mind), “I forgive you. I release you. You are free, and I am free. It’s important to remember that forgiveness is NOT saying that what they did was ok. It’s just saying that it’s over and it doesn’t have a hold on you anymore. You need to forgive so that you can stop being hurt over and over by whatever it is that you’re holding onto. Do it for you.

Repeat these steps until you feel a sense of peace and self-love coming over you. Releasing your need to feel unworthy and forgiving yourself and others for any past hurts or perceived wrongs are two of the most important things you can do for yourself. Best of luck to you on your journey of self love, healing and living out your purpose.
