Bedtime conversation with my daughter:
A: “Mom? Is the Force real?”
Me: “Well,…yeah. Yeah, I think it is.”
A: “So does that mean I can close my eyes and move things?!”
Me: “No, not really. It’s more like when you close your eyes and get very quiet and then you can feel the spirit that makes you you.”
A: “What do you mean the spirit that makes me me?”
Me: “Well your body is kind of like a house that your spirit lives in. And when you let your body be quiet, you can hear the spirit part of you. It’s the part of you that loves and feels and connects us to each other. In an invisible kind of way.”
A: “So I can close my eyes at school and use the force to feel you because we love each other?”
Me: “Yes. That’s a great way of explaining it.”
(pause)
A: “If I’m really quiet can it actually tell me if Darth Vader is coming?”

The Force is a funny thing. So are 5 year-olds for that matter. But it got me to thinking about the force inside of all of us. That certain instinct or intuition that propels you to make choices that maybe you wouldn't have made otherwise. Or maybe the sense of destiny or coincidence that we experience from time to time. I can say with certainty that I’ve experienced some “Force”-like momentum in my life many times. I most definitely feel there was an invisible push towards Young Living.
At the time that I was introduced to Young Living, I really didn’t even know that there was a void in that department of my life. I was using - and I use that term loosely- another brand of essential oils and I didn’t really care that much to expand my collection. It’s not like they blew my mind or anything.
But I had been hearing about Young Living and a friend was telling me what amazing results she was having with them. Again, I had ZERO desire to acquire more of something I already wasn’t really using. But something made me feel like I should give them a try. I ordered a couple of bottles and you guessed it: I was blown away. Again and again I was left speechless by how stinkin' effective they were! Lo and behold, the exact same thing was happening for my mom and my sister at the exact same time.
So there we were, all gaga and loving these amazing oils. Sweet. Cut to a few weeks later when JoAnn and Joelle have a light bulb moment.
Let’s go ahead and form a business team to help us share them with everyone!
I think the conversation went something like this:
Mom (JoAnn): “So we had this great idea and I’ve got you all set up on the team and you’re ready to go!”
Me: “Um, you guys can totally do that, like that would be awesome for you, but I’m not. It’s just not my thing. Whatever team I’m on, please take me off.”
I hung up and wondered, “Do they even know me at all? I’m an introvert! I. DON’T. SELL. STUFF.” The end.
Something strange happened during the next two weeks after that phone call. I began to talk to people about Young Living. Not because I wanted to sell anything. Because I wanted to help. I wanted other people to feel the happiness of seeing their loved ones get relief or feel hope. I wanted to share how they worked for my family so that they might help another.
Something was nudging me. I eventually picked up the phone, called my mom back and said, “Ok. I want to do this.”

Here I am almost 3 years later. Still 100% behind Young Living’s products and mission and totally amazed by the community of people I’ve been blessed to be a part of. I love what they stand for. I love the integrity and quality they bring. I love that they allow us to care for ourselves and others in a beautiful and natural way. They have forced this introvert out of her shell and into an amazing world of opportunity.
Maybe the force is God’s hand in our lives. Maybe it’s our inner voice. Maybe it’s mother nature, fate or the invisible ties that bind us all. Whatever it is, I have heard the gentle whisper that Young Living is a part of my journey. I am so glad it’s a part of yours, too.
May the force (and your YLEO’s) be with you.
